San Anselmo is north of Kentfield and west of San Rafael. The town's access to Highway 101 and San Francisco is Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. It takes around 15 or 20 minutes to travel from San Anselmo's charming downtown to Highway 101....then another 15 or 20 minutes to the Golden Gate Bridge.
Known for its antique shops, restaurants and coffee shops .... San Anselmo is also occasionally in the news for its winter flooding.
Older neighborhoods with vintage homes from the 30s and 40s surround the downtown area. Further down Sir Francis Drake Boulevard toward Fairfax, the Sleepy Hollow neighborhood off of Butterfield Road has a more 'country' feel to it, with spacious homes on larger lots.
Because San Anselmo is a little further away from the city than Ross, Kentfield and Larkspur, the average home price is a bit lower. The priciest neighborhoods are the Seminary area just to the west of downtown, and the Winship Park or Barber tract neighborhoods on the east side of Sir Francis Drake. San Anselmo's various neighborhoods provide a sense of community that is hard to find in other places.
