Tiburon is surrounded on three sides by water, so many of its hillside homes have views of San Francisco, the East Bay, Sausalito and the Golden Gate Bridge.
The island of Belvedere is just a few blocks away from charming downtown Tiburon. (actually formerly an island -- landfill has connected it to Tiburon) It's only a half mile long, and there are roads that access the community on both ends. Both Belvedere and Tiburon neighborhoods are coveted locations that combine small town charm with stellar city views.
There are flat neighborhoods in both Tiburon and Belvedere, most of which are built on landfill. Homes in the Belvedere "Lagoon" neighborhood often have lagoon and/or Mt. Tamalpais views.
The freeway exit for Tiburon and Belvedere is less than 10 minutes to the Golden Gate Bridge, and it takes at least an additional 10 minutes to reach the end of the peninsula, depending on traffic.
The schools are excellent, and scores can be accessed with the "Marin County School Scores" link.
Downtown Tiburon features many restaurants with views and a classic movie theater. There is ferry service from downtown to Angel Island and to San Francisco. There are more tourists in downtown during the summertime, but the morning hours are always quiet and conducive to sipping a cup of coffee with a view across the bay to the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco.
