From the turn-of-the-century Victorians near downtown to mid-century modern Eichlers in Terra Linda, San Rafael has just about any kind of housing style out there.
Terra Linda, north of the downtown area, is known for its excellent Dixie School District. Several of the other San Rafael neighborhoods such as Sun Valley and Glenwood have high performing elementary schools as well.
Mission San Rafael Archangel, founded in 1817, anchors the downtown area. The County's Civic Center, designed by world renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright, is located in northern San Rafael. Dominican University provides high quality undergraduate and graduate programs. The university is surrounded by stately mansions as well as average-sized homes in every style imaginable.
